Yahoo, one of the biggest brand names in the internet industry recently had to go through a very embarrassing situation. A number of yahoo accounts were hacked and their usernames and passwords changed. It is believed that the email ids were stolen from a database, though yahoo denies that it was their database that was hacked.

“Our ongoing investigation shows that malicious computer software used the list of usernames and passwords to access Yahoo Mail accounts,” Yahoo senior VP Jay Rossiter said in a Tumblr post. “The information sought in the attack seems to be names and email addresses from the affected accounts’ most recent sent emails … we have no evidence that they were obtained directly from Yahoo’s systems.”

Yahoo has appealed to its users to not panic. All the affected accounts have been identified and their passwords have been reset, a confirmation of which will be sent to the users have they signed up for a two factor authorization. Following this incident, Yahoo has now implemented a 2048-bit SSL encryption for Yahoo Mail, making it more secure than ever before.
