Orkut Shuts Down Tomorrow !!

Here comes the end of an once upon a time super popular social networking site in India- ORKUT. A website which was the first social networking experince for many of us is going to be shutdown tomorrow i.e 30th September 2014.

Orkut a social networking website is owned and operated by Google and it was named after its creator, Google employee  Orkut BüyükköktenGoogle said it will shut down Orkut, which is widely used in Brazil and India but has not shown more results in other countries and it will focus on its other social networking initiatives. Users can download their profile archive by Google Takeout

It seems Google decided it long back and hence it stopped all new account creation since starting July 2014. “Over the past decade, YouTube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off, with communities springing up in every corner of the world. Because the growth of these communities has outpaced Orkut’s growth, we’ve decided to bid Orkut farewell,” Google said in a post on the Orkut blog on Monday. The company said it would preserve an archive of all Orkut “communities” that will be available from Sept. 30.

“If you don’t want your posts or name to be included in the community archive, you can remove Orkut permanently from your Google account,” Google said.
